9.11 and after

Sept. 11, 7:10 p.m.
From my roof.

The smoke seemed to be drifting directly into my neighborhood that night. It smelled of burning plastic and noxious chemicals. I actually worried about being asphyxiated in my sleep. I took the subway to a friend's place in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, further north. We stayed up late and watched the planes hit the towers and the buildings collapse, over and over again. We were both glad to have some company.
